Building Surveyor – Heritage Specialist

Full-time | Hybrid (min. 3 days office-based)
Salary - £40,000 - £48,000

 

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading consultancy for a Building Surveyor with a keen interest in the conservation and care of historic buildings. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly respected in-house surveying team working on landmark heritage assets across the South of England.

The role would suit someone who is RICS chartered or actively working towards chartership, and who is looking to grow their career within a multi-disciplinary environment. You'll be delivering expert surveying services across a wide range of historic and listed structures, often of national significance.

 

Requirements of the Building Surveyor - Heritage

You’ll be part of a collaborative technical team and will:

  • Conduct condition surveys and building inspections, identifying defects and recommending appropriate repairs
  • Produce detailed, illustrated reports supported by robust research
  • Prepare technical specifications for remedial work
  • Advise clients on material performance, building condition, and maintenance strategies
  • Attend client meetings and contribute to multidisciplinary planning discussions

Depending on your experience, you may also:

  • Manage building contracts and administer construction projects
  • Support fee proposals and contribute to bid documentation
  • Develop specialisms within conservation surveying, with training and mentoring support

 

Requirements of the Building Surveyor - Heritage

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience surveying and advising on repairs to traditional or historic buildings
  • Sound understanding of building pathology and conservation repair techniques
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, building standards, and heritage policy
  • Organised and self-motivated, with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working on-site, including at height (e.g. scaffold inspections)
  • UK driving licence and willingness to travel and stay away for occasional site visits

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Chartered (MRICS) or working toward accreditation
  • Conservation accreditation (e.g. RICS Conservation or IHBC membership)
  • Experience working on heritage projects for public sector or charitable bodies
  • Knowledge of non-invasive investigation and environmental monitoring methods
  • Contract administration experience
  • Cost estimating and commercial awareness
