Location: Reading (with flexible working options)
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 + benefits + car allowance

 

Are you a Health & Safety professional with a solid background in construction design and a passion for proactive project safety? Our client, a well-regarded multidisciplinary construction consultancy, is looking for a CDM Principal Designer to join their expanding team in Reading.
 

This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in shaping safe and compliant project outcomes, working on a variety of high-profile, multi-disciplinary developments across sectors.
 

As Principal Designer, you’ll act as the key point of contact to ensure that design and construction projects meet statutory health and safety obligations under CDM 2015. You'll be responsible for coordinating design risk management, supporting clear communication between duty holders, and promoting a culture of safety throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.

 

Key Responsibilities of the CDM Principal Designer

  • Oversee and coordinate CDM duties in line with legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards
  • Work with designers to develop and maintain a comprehensive Design Risk Management schedule
  • Identify and collate pre-construction information, addressing any data gaps early
  • Lead health and safety design reviews throughout design and build phases
  • Facilitate coordination between project stakeholders on health and safety matters
  • Produce and issue the Health & Safety file upon project completion

 

Required of the CDM Principal Designer:

  • Recognised Health & Safety qualification (e.g. Registered Member of APS or IOSH)
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a construction-related discipline, with 3+ years post-qualification experience
  • In-depth understanding of CDM 2015 regulations, L144 and associated guidance
  • Background in delivering construction projects within a consultancy environment
  • Skilled in design risk management, construction techniques, and relevant H&S regulations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills
  • Able to manage time effectively and work independently

 

On offer for the CDM Principal Designer:

  • £40,000 – £50,000 base salary
