A respected multidisciplinary consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Designer to support the continued growth of its Health & Safety/CDM services in Reading. You’ll work on a range of projects across sectors, including housing, education, and commercial, offering the chance to manage multiple schemes and contribute to improving design safety across the project lifecycle.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of the CDM 2015 Regulations, design risk management, and construction methodologies to take ownership of Principal Designer duties while working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise clients of their statutory duties under CDM 2015
- Fulfil Principal Designer duties across a variety of live projects
- Coordinate with designers to compile Design Risk Management schedules
- Lead H&S design reviews at all project stages
- Manage and collate pre-construction information, addressing any gaps
- Promote clear communication between duty holders around H&S coordination
- Prepare Health & Safety Files upon project completion
- Support internal designers and project managers with specialist CDM guidance
Candidate Requirements
- Degree (or equivalent) in a construction-related discipline
- 3+ years of post-qualification experience
- Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 and associated best practices
- Membership of a relevant body (e.g., APS, IOSH, or working towards)
- Experience in delivering multi-disciplinary construction projects
- Effective communication skills and stakeholder coordination
- Sound understanding of construction techniques and H&S legislation
