Deputy Design Manager

Conrad Consulting are working with a leading construction and engineering contractor to recruit a Deputy Design Manager to support delivery of a major hospital project located in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. This is an interim role for 3-6 months and a fantastic opportunity to join a high-profile healthcare scheme, contributing your design and coordination expertise to ensure a successful outcome.

Reporting to the Senior Design Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing and reviewing design information, coordinating consultant teams, and ensuring compliance with contractual, technical, and programme requirements.

This role is site-based and requires strong communication, technical, and stakeholder management skills in a fast-paced healthcare delivery environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and manage design information in line with procedures and contractual obligations.
  • Ensure designs are complete, buildable, technically sound, and aligned to programme, safety, maintenance and quality standards.
  • Coordinate the production, control and distribution of design information throughout project stages.
  • Support client, consultant and internal team relationships to maintain alignment with project goals.
  • Monitor and report on design progress, risks, and opportunities.
  • Assist with collaborative design reviews and manage technical queries.
  • Support construction and handover activities by ensuring design intent is met on site.

Skills & Experience

We’re looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Architect (ARB / RIBA Registered) or MCIAT Architectural Technologist with experience in delivering projects on site.
  • Experience working in design management roles, ideally on healthcare or large-scale building projects.
  • Knowledge of statutory compliance, design governance and risk management.
  • Experience working collaboratively with consultant teams, contractors, and client representatives.
  • Familiarity with a range of construction materials, methods, and building services.
  • Proficiency in planning, reporting, and managing design programmes.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

Hourly rate depending on experience £30-£40 per hour.
