My client is currently looking for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to fill a permanent opening within their Colchester based office. Interested candidates must have the willingness to learn and in turn they will receive fantastic training and extensive support in their pathway to become a MRICS.
Interested candidates will get exposure to projects within the private sector ranging up to £15M in size in various sectors such as Commercial, Local Authority, Healthcare and Education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take client instructions when appropriate and deliver tailored services to meet their specific needs.
- Assist in the development of outline cost plans and budgets, ensuring alignment with client requirements. Produce preliminaries and contract documents to facilitate project tendering.
- Work collaboratively with other design team members to influence the design process from a cost perspective. Prepare and update project cash flows as required.
- Evaluate tenders, provide recommendations to clients, and produce detailed tender analyses.
- Provide support to the Project Manager, attending Pre-Start and Project Meetings to offer expert advice on costings. Regularly update clients on project progress, addressing any technical or financial implications.
- Inspect works on-site when necessary, ensuring work quantities and cost performance meet expectations. Authorise contractor payments accordingly.
- Monitor and control project expenditure to ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule.
- Negotiate and agree final accounts with contractors and clients.
- Assist in the appointment and oversight of specialist contractors as needed.
- Accurately record time spent on each project to ensure proper billing and resource allocation.
- Actively contribute to promoting the Practice and supporting efforts to secure new projects and clients.
Requirements of the Graduate Quantity Surveyor
- A degree in Quantity Surveying with at least 2 years of post-graduate experience is essential
- Strong understanding of both traditional and modern construction techniques and materials.
- Familiarity with Building Regulations, Approved Documents, and relevant legislation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
