Head of People

An established AJ100 Architectural Practice with a reputation for delivering exceptional, award-winning design solutions are currently recruiting for a Head of People to join their Head Office in Chesterfield, S41.

As part of our client’s new management structure, an ambitious and experienced Senior HR Manager is required to join the leadership team to play a pivotal role as Head of People in the strategic management and operational efficiency of their growing practice.

Overview of the Role and Opportunity:

In this newly created Head of People role you will shape and deliver the HR people strategy, elevating the employee experience and promoting organisational effectiveness and optimisation aligned to a sustainable growth plan. As a visible and trusted leader operating across the business, you will proactively guide and support the management and support services teams to further embed their valuesled ways of working.

The Head of People will have holistic oversight of Human Resources (HR) including HR related strategic and transactional, operational and legal functions, learning and development, employee lifecycle, communications and employer H&S obligations across all Executive Director led teams.

The successful candidate will have a proven impact and outcomes led track record working in a relevant professional services workplace context, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills, operational expertise, and the ability to manage cross-functional teams effectively.

Key Responsibilities for the head of people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver the organisation’s people strategy, aligned to long‑term business objectives.
  • Lead and continuously improve HR operations, systems, and policies.
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Drive employee engagement, wellbeing, inclusion and professional development initiatives.
  • Provide advice on complex employee relations matters, performance and reward.
  • Deliver accurate HR metrics and reports to support decision‑making.
  • Manage HR budgets and ensure compliance with employment law and health & safety obligations.

About You:

  • CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent) with significant senior HR leadership experience.
  • Track record of shaping and delivering people strategies in a professional services or creative environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practice, employment law, and organisational development.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Passionate about culture, employee experience, and building high‑performing teams.
