Senior Architect

Senior Architect – Education Sector Lead

Multi-disciplinary Architectural Practice in Leeds seeks a talented Senior Architect with proven experience delivering education sector projects, to lead a £15 million school scheme and support further growth within our clients recently awarded local authority education framework.

With around 40 talented professionals across two UK studios, our Practice continues to thrive with a diverse portfolio across multiple sectors. While maintaining a strong regional studio culture, the Leeds office is currently operating remotely as they secure a new permanent space. The team will return to a flexible hybrid working model later this year. Applicants must therefore have appropriate facilities to work from home effectively in the meantime.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Architect to take a lead role on a flagship education project, while playing a key part in future bids and supporting development efforts. We are looking for someone with a track record of delivering primary and/or secondary schools, capable of taking responsibility from conception through to completion. For the right candidate, there is also scope to develop into a more senior leadership and management role over time.

Role responsibilities

  • Lead Architect for a new £15m school project, initially working closely with the studio lead to ensure a smooth handover.
  • Actively contribute to bids, building on your education sector expertise and contacts.
  • Support the studio lead with project delivery and coordination across the wider team.
  • Deliver high-quality design work and project management through all stages.
  • Represent the Practice confidently with clients, contractors and consultants.

What we’re looking for

  • RIBA/ARB registered Architect with approx. 10+ years’ professional experience.
  • Currently at Senior Architect level with strong project running experience, ideally ready to step into a more strategic role.
  • Substantial recent experience delivering education sector projects – having led at least one primary or secondary school scheme in the last 5 years.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering projects through all stages, with excellent technical and design skills.
  • Good understanding of procurement routes and contract types (NEC experience advantageous).
  • Skilled in producing clear diagrams, presentations, and resolving detailing challenges.
  • Confident, proactive and collaborative, with excellent client-facing and team leadership skills.

What’s on offer

  • Competitive salary circa £45,000 - £50,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • 27 days holiday plus Christmas shutdown.
  • Employer pension contribution.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Flexible working: hybrid model with 2 days in the studio and 3 days remote once the new office is operational. Initially fully remote, with regular in-person team meetings in Leeds city centre.

If you’re an experienced Architect with a passion for education projects and ready to take the next step in your career, we’d love to hear from you.
