Senior Engineer (Structural / Chartered)

Role Overview

We are partnering with a well‑established engineering practice to recruit a Senior Chartered Engineer. The successful candidate will report to a Section Lead and will play a key role in technical leadership, project delivery, and growing the practice.

Key Requirements & Attributes

  • Chartered status (e.g. CEng, MICE or MIStructE)
  • Strong track record of technical excellence and design rigour
  • Demonstrable experience in overseeing structural engineering projects
  • High level of personal responsibility and commitment beyond minimum contractual expectations
  • Ability to generate new business through building relationships and networking

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee projects and lead staff allocated to them. Support the Section Lead in supervising the team.
  • Coach non‑chartered engineers and technicians. Foster development of technical skills, efficiency, and professional growth.
  • Lead feasibility studies, conceptual design, technical supervision, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance of finished structures. Translate architectural or client visions into functional and buildable structural designs.
  • Assist in coordinating office resources; contribute to regular reports on resource use and project load.
  • Responsible for ensuring safe practices on site visits, use of proper PPE, risk assessments, and maintaining quality and safety standards throughout projects.
  • Support in procuring new work, expanding business areas via marketing, networking, and client engagement.
  • Monitor project profitability, ensure project targets (budget, time, quality) are met; manage and allocate time effectively.

General Responsibilities

  • Developing client relationships and exploring new business opportunities
  • Regular reporting on workload and resource utilisation
  • Structural inspections and technical reports when required
  • Staying current with technical developments, legislation, and best practice standards
  • Contributing to marketing efforts and maintaining external profile through key relationships
  • Working both independently and as part of multidisciplinary project teams
  • Ensuring high standards of technical work, professionalism and efficiency across the team

 

Structural Engineer Responsibilities

  • Carry out structural design works, inspections, and reporting
  • Keep up to date with latest technical standards and legal requirements
  • Contribute to project financial performance
