I’m looking to speak to passionate and experienced Urban Designers to join a forward-thinking AJ100 practice working on transformative projects across the UK. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the design and delivery of vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable places, from new communities and town centre regeneration to strategic masterplans and urban frameworks.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Collaborate with senior colleagues on a wide range of urban design and masterplanning projects
- Produce high-quality design outputs including frameworks, land budgets, layouts, and vision documents
- Prepare supporting materials such as Design Access Statements, Design Codes, and presentation packs
- Attend client meetings, present design proposals, and contribute to community engagement events
- Coordinate with sub-consultants and external stakeholders to ensure cohesive project delivery
- Mentor junior designers and review their work to maintain high standards
- Stay informed of technical developments and planning legislation, applying them to your work
- Occasionally lead projects when designated, managing timelines and deliverables
- Participate in site visits, project team meetings, and CPD activities
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in urban design, with a strong portfolio of built and strategic work
- Ability to lead projects with support, manage meetings, and deliver compelling presentations
- Experience in suburban masterplanning, town centre regeneration, and new community design
- Strong graphic and technical skills, including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and SketchUp
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, with experience managing sub-consultants
- A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for mentoring junior team members
- A passion for creating places that are inclusive, sustainable, and people-focused
The successful Urban Designer will receive a salary of £45,000 - £50,000 dependent on experience, hybrid working arrangements and a generous benefits package.
